Scoops, Swoops, and Hoops

Architecture (Course) Work
TCAUP UG2:  Fieldhouses: Gymnafatoriums
Professor: Julia McMurrough
 
Critics: Francesca Mavaracchio, Carly Gerstler, Athar Mufreh
 Tasked with developing a municipal fieldhouse between the urban centers of Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, Michigan, our studio worked to create an accessible gymnasium/cafeteria/auditorium commons. We attended a wheelchair basketball game and worked with the University of Michigan Adaptive Sports & Fitness Center to better understand what makes spaces not just accessible, but enjoyable. 

The resulting structure takes advantage of wraparounds, scoops, and swoops to create generous points of entry, congregation, and use. Architectural generosity carries through the space
