Three houses, one roof, shrouding a garden: one for growing, one for preparing, and one for retreat sit under one figural roof whose seams begin to distinguish interior spaces. Activities bleed between; garden-space turns to counter-space.
Drawing on Jennifer Bonner’s Haus Gables and Allan Wexler, Michael Yarinsky’s Farm is Table, House is Table plays off farmhouse typologies and ideas of hyper-locality where domesticity is cadenced around and between each “house” and the "garden". Playing off the additive gables seen in rural vernacular architecture such as the New England “big house, little house, back house, barn,” the roof gables shift in scale and size from the front to the back, with the seams beginning to distinguish thresholds.
